1998 Kennedy Half Dollar

The 1998 Kennedy Half Dollar saw mintages decline for circulation strike coins produced at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. Both had about 15 million coins produced. The clad proof and 90% silver proof Kennedy Halves minted this year would experience higher mintages than the prior year. The coming year would debut the new 50 State Quarters series which would have an impact on all of coin collecting.
This year featured the release of a special 1998 Matte Proof Kennedy Half Dollar. This coin was included in the two coin 1998 Robert F. Kennedy Commemorative Coin Set. Due to the low number of sets sold, this coin has a low mintage and commands a significant premium.
